DT Fam,
When you are chasing your dreams you have to be consistent. Over time you will find, even if small, you get closer and closer to what you want to achieve. This is something that is important to us and has helped us accomplish some really cool things. In this consistency it is inevitable to feel like you are in a lull or that things are not working out. This is normal and this “stress” will help you grow if you allow it to. If you find that you are at a low point or that things aren't going the way you want, it is imperative to challenge those not so helpful thoughts and not give up. Focus on all the good things going your way and resources around you that are there to help you achieve your goals. This mindset can help you in many areas of your life.
When applied to music or art it helps you remember that what you are creating has value and is important. If you pay too much attention to what is happening outside of you (such as what other people think of your music, ticket sales, not “breaking through” enough) then your product tends to suffer. I recently saw a reel from Rick Rubin who discussed how he makes his art for himself. His thought is that if you only focus on what others may want that the work suffers. This really moved me and I appreciated his approach that you need to stay true to yourself no matter what.
We want you to know that we continue to love what we are doing and the music we make. We appreciate all of the support the band has seen over the past years. It fuels us and makes us want to create and deliver songs that we hope will continue to resonate in some way with you. Big things continue to come our way and even if we feel like we're in one of those low points, your energy and support are the reminders of all the good things out there and make us keep going.
Because of you we are Better Off Alive!!
Peace,
Die Tired
